ORD 48.41.07

Mayor Jerry Jennings has introduced a sweeping new gun control package to the Common Council, ORD 48.41.07.  Among the things included in this proposal are: 

• Registering ALL firearms within the city
  
• Prohibiting private gun sales
  
• Registering all sales and requiring dealers to provide that information daily to the police
  
• Outlawing "high caliber" ammunition including 9mm and .357
  
• Mandatory storage

Gun Violence Task Force

July 23, 2007 update: Anyone interested in seeking an appointment to the "gun violence task force" should send a letter of intent and their resume to Legislative Aide Cashawna Parker.  See the e-mail from Councilman Conti.

July 16, 2007 update: ORD 71.111.06 was approved by the full Council.

July 11, 2007 update: ORD 71.111.06 was approved by a 5-0 vote at the July 10 Public Safety Committee meeting.  The bill will go before the full Council for a vote at their next meeting on July 16 at 7:00pm.

July 6, 2007 update: Councilman Calsolaro has amended ORD 71.111.06 to allow the Mayor to appointment members to the "gun violence task force."  The Times Union reports that Mayor Jennings is in agreement with this.

June 19, 2007 update: The Public Safety Committee will take up ORD 71.111.06 at the July 10 meeting, 5:30pm at City Hall.  Public comment will be allowed.
